Atlan is building the essential context layer for enterprise AI, creating infrastructure that helps apps and AI agents work together reliably. As a Principal Software Engineer for the Agent & App Platform team, you will help shape the technical direction for the agent registry and gateway platform. Your team builds foundational infrastructure that allows Atlan teams, partners, and customers to build, run, distribute, observe, and govern apps and agents at scale. A normal day involves tackling complex technical problems end-to-end, designing platform services, building execution primitives, collaborating with product and engineering teams on architecture, and mentoring engineers to raise technical standards across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Design and build platform services for agents, tools, and MCP servers including registries, gateways, routing, and policy enforcement.
• Build primitives powering agent execution and lifecycle like secure sandboxing, tenant-aware context, and durable sessions.
• Evolve Atlan workflow and runtime infrastructure using Temporal, Kubernetes, and cloud-native technologies.
• Design and operate multi-tenant distributed systems for enterprise workloads solving isolation and failure recovery.
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams on app and agent integration, contributing to architecture and technical standards.
• Mentor engineers and drive strong engineering practices, design reviews, and technical leadership.

Requirements

• 14+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or backend systems in a SaaS environment.
• Strong experience building platform services, API gateways, service registries, or control planes.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and multi-tenant architectures including event-driven systems and failure recovery.
• Strong Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud infrastructure experience across AWS and/or GCP.
• Experience designing systems with clear reliability, latency, capacity, and cost requirements.
• Ability to work autonomously on ambiguous, cross-functional technical problems and communicate trade-offs clearly.

Good to have

• Experience with MCP, A2A, agent frameworks, agent runtimes, LLM gateways, or agent observability.
• Experience building marketplaces, plugin ecosystems, developer platforms, or automation systems.
• Experience with identity and authorization for non-human actors and secure sandboxing.
• Experience with Temporal, Terraform, Helm, GitOps, CI/CD, or container registries.
• Experience operating enterprise-scale production systems with demanding SLOs and distributed tracing.
