SigNoz is looking for a Sr Backend Engineer for Nerve, their AI pod. SigNoz is an open-source observability platform that helps engineering teams monitor, debug, and optimize applications using metrics, traces, and logs. Built natively on OpenTelemetry, the company provides self-hosted and cloud options without vendor lock-in. In this role, you will work on the AI layer of SigNoz, which includes Noz (an AI teammate), the MCP server, AI Agents, and LLM observability. A normal day involves building agent backends, working on agent orchestration, tool calling, streaming over SSE, managing session state, developing the SigNoz MCP server to query logs, metrics, and traces, and monitoring AI applications with OpenTelemetry.

Responsibilities

• Work on Noz, the AI teammate, focusing on agent orchestration, tool calling, streaming over SSE, and session state.
• Develop the SigNoz MCP server so LLM agents can query logs, metrics, traces, and create alerts or dashboards.
• Contribute to LLM and GenAI observability by monitoring AI applications with OpenTelemetry.
• Design APIs and data models using Go and async Python.
• Drive initiatives end-to-end from problem discovery and design to implementation and rollout.
• Write clear documentation and explain technical trade-offs within a remote-first team.

Requirements

• 5-8 years of experience building backend systems in production at product companies with strong engineering culture.
• Proficiency in Go, including concurrency, channels, and performance.
• Experience with async Python such as FastAPI, Pydantic, and asyncio.
• Comfortable designing APIs and data models.
• Curiosity about building with LLMs and agents, with the drive to make non-deterministic systems dependable.
• High ownership and ability to work in a fast-moving, remote-first team.

Good to have

• Shipped LLM features in production like agents, tool or function calling, evals, MCP, and prompt engineering.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, Kafka, or Kubernetes.
• Passion for open source with prior contributions to OSS projects.

Who should apply

This role suits experienced backend engineers with 5-8 years of production experience who want to move into AI engineering. You should have strong expertise in Go and async Python, along with high ownership and a drive to build dependable systems. Previous AI experience is not required, as long as you have strong backend fundamentals and enthusiasm for learning AI concepts. Freshers should not apply since 5-8 years of backend experience is required.
