Oscilar is hiring a Sr./Staff Backend Engineer for a remote position in India to help shape the future of trust in the age of AI. The company builds an advanced AI Risk Decisioning Platform used by banks, fintechs, and digital organizations to handle fraud, credit, and compliance risk. In this role, you will be part of a small, senior team where you take ownership of critical platform components. A normal day involves designing, building, and shipping features end to end, scaling core Java services, working with real-time streaming technologies, making architectural decisions, and collaborating closely with product, frontend, and customer-facing teams. You will also manage production environments, optimize system performance, and maintain high engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Own features end to end from concept and design to deployment and production maintenance.
• Build and scale core Java services prioritizing latency and reliability.
• Work on high-volume real-time streaming and data systems.
• Propose architecture, evaluate trade-offs, and write detailed design documents.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and customer-facing teams to understand problems.
• Manage production systems through monitoring, performance tuning, and root cause analysis.
• Elevate team capabilities through code reviews and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience with deep expertise in Java.
• Demonstrated ability to take projects from concept to production independently.
• Experience building and operating low-latency, high-scale distributed systems.
• Hands-on expertise with AWS, microservices, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with event streaming and data systems like Kafka, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
• Strong knowledge of API design and security best practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for an async working environment.

Good to have

• Experience with Flink, Temporal, or Databricks.
• Background in fintech, fraud prevention, risk, or payments.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields.
• Experience using AI coding agents in day-to-day development.
