Coursera is seeking an AI Specialist II to join their team in India. In this hands-on applied AI position, you will help shape how the world learns by transforming complex datasets and ambiguous business challenges into practical artificial intelligence solutions. A typical day involves designing and building AI systems, developing retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, creating agentic workflows, prototyping new approaches, and collaborating closely with product managers, data analysts, software engineers, and business teams to evaluate and measure AI performance.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AI systems including retrieval pipelines, agentic workflows, and structured data extraction.
• Architect and implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines using vector databases for context-aware applications.
• Build and maintain multi-step agentic AI workflows and autonomous execution loops.
• Design and run evaluation frameworks for AI systems focusing on accuracy, grounding checks, and regression.
• Work with large-scale structured and unstructured datasets using cloud-native databases and storage.
• Develop rapid AI prototypes and experiment with models, prompts, and retrieval strategies.
• Partner with product managers and engineers to translate business needs into scoped AI solutions.
• Document architectures, design decisions, runbooks, and evaluation results for the team.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in Data Science, Applied AI, or Machine Learning.
• Experience taking AI use cases from exploration and experimentation to validated prototypes.
• Hands-on expertise with modern Generative AI techniques such as LLMs, embeddings, RAG, and agentic systems.
• At least 2 production deployments involving LLM-based systems.
• Experience with AI experimentation, evaluation, defining quality metrics, and error analysis.
• Proficiency using Python and SQL to handle data and build AI and machine learning solutions.

Good to have

• Experience with GenAI platforms and ecosystems like Vertex AI, Bedrock, Azure AI, OpenAI, or Hugging Face.
• Experience designing vector search, tool-calling, agent orchestration, or LLM gateways.
• Experience with AI evaluation methods such as golden datasets, LLM-as-judge, or automated quality frameworks.
• Familiarity with modern data platforms including Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Spark.
• Knowledge of AI observability, model monitoring, responsible AI, and AI guardrails.
