Handshake is seeking a Data Analyst, Finance and Payments to support the Finance and Central Operations organization in India. The company operates a major platform connecting millions of job seekers, employers, and educational institutions, and recently launched Handshake AI to partner with frontier AI labs. In this role, you will help build the data infrastructure, analytics, and reporting that drive financial and operational decision-making. A normal day involves designing and maintaining scalable dashboards, developing automated data pipelines, building reconciliations and controls for high-volume payment processes, and translating complex operational data into reliable financial insights. You will collaborate closely with the Payment Operations team and the San Francisco-based team, requiring availability during core U.S. business hours.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable Finance and Operations dashboards covering revenue, margins, cash flows, and payments.
• Develop automated data pipelines integrating information from financial, operational, and business systems.
• Identify and execute opportunities to automate financial reporting processes and reduce spreadsheet-based work.
• Partner with Payment Operations to build analytics regarding payment volumes, accuracy, exceptions, and disputes.
• Develop automated reconciliations and controls to detect missing, duplicate, incorrect, or unusual payments.
• Support the investigation and resolution of payment discrepancies through detailed data analysis.
• Translate business questions from stakeholders into data models, dashboards, and actionable insights.

Requirements

• 3 to 6+ years of experience in data analytics, analytics engineering, data engineering, financial analytics, or a related field.
• Experience with Python or another analytical programming language.
• Availability during core U.S. business hours to collaborate closely with the San Francisco-based team.
• Ability to build scalable Finance and Operations dashboards and reporting.
• Experience developing automated data pipelines and financial reporting processes.
• Capability to partner with stakeholders and translate business questions into data models and analysis.

Good to have

• Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large datasets.
• Experience building dashboards using tools like Hex, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
• Familiarity with modern data warehouses and transformation tools such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data quality, reconciliation, and automation.
• Experience working with Finance teams and payment operations in transaction-heavy environments.
