phData is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their remote Data Engineering team in India. As a global data and AI consultancy, phData partners with major industry leaders like Snowflake, AWS, and Anthropic to solve complex data challenges for large enterprises. In this role, you will design, build, and launch secure, scalable cloud data solutions while collaborating closely with client stakeholders and cross-functional teams. A normal day involves translating business needs into technical architectures, writing production-grade code in Python or Scala, developing data pipelines, participating in design and code reviews, and creating clear technical documentation. You will also contribute to internal playbooks and mentor peers, all while operating within a remote-first, fast-paced consulting environment that values ownership and delivery excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy end-to-end data solutions and pipelines for enterprise clients.
• Translate business needs into technical data architectures and integration models following best practices.
• Ensure solutions meet high standards for performance, security, reliability, and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners and provide technical leadership during design and code reviews.
• Produce detailed technical documentation, operational runbooks, and roadmaps for reuse.
• Contribute to internal initiatives by developing accelerators, templates, and playbooks.
• Share knowledge through mentoring and participation in internal communities of practice.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer and/or Data Engineer building production-grade data solutions.
• Programming expertise in Python and/or Scala for data processing, automation, and orchestration.
• Hands-on experience with core cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or Databricks.
• Strong SQL skills to write, debug, and optimize complex queries.
• Experience delivering projects for external or internal clients in a consulting environment.
• Strong client-facing written and verbal communication skills in English.
• 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Good to have

• Production experience with cloud and distributed storage systems like S3, ADLS, or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with modern integration and streaming technologies like Spark, Kafka, Fivetran, or Azure Data Factory.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or Luigi.
• Experience with automated data transformation and curation using dbt or Spark.
• Prior experience working in global or remote teams across different time zones.
