About this job

As a Senior Data Engineer at phData in India, you will design, build, and productionize end-to-end cloud data solutions and pipelines for enterprise clients. Operating within a remote-first data and AI consultancy, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, architects, and client stakeholders to solve complex data challenges. A normal day involves translating business requirements into technical data architectures, writing and optimizing complex queries, providing technical leadership during design and code reviews, and ensuring solutions meet performance, security, and scalability standards. You will also create technical documentation, contribute to internal playbooks, and participate in client workshops while working closely with global, distributed teams during India business hours.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive the design, development, and deployment of end-to-end data solutions and pipelines for enterprise clients.
• Translate business requirements into technical data architectures, integration patterns, and models.
• Ensure solutions meet performance, security, reliability, and scalability requirements in production environments.
• Provide technical leadership during design and code reviews, proof-of-concepts, and implementation workshops.
• Contribute to internal initiatives such as developing accelerators, templates, playbooks, and best practices.
• Create clear technical documentation including architectures, roadmaps, and operational runbooks.
• Partner with practice and account leaders to identify opportunities to expand engagements and standardize reusable components.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer and/or Data Engineer building production-grade data solutions.
• Programming expertise in Python and/or Scala for data processing, automation, and orchestration.
• Hands-on experience with core cloud data platforms including Snowflake, AWS, Azure, and/or Databricks.
• Strong SQL skills to write, debug, and optimize complex queries.
• Experience delivering projects for external or internal clients in a professional services or consulting environment.
• Strong client-facing written and verbal communication skills in English.
• 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Good to have

• Production experience in core data platforms such as GCP, Hadoop, and Databricks.
• Experience with cloud and distributed data storage systems like S3, ADLS, GCS, HDFS, Cassandra, or NoSQL storage.
• Experience with modern data integration and streaming technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Fivetran, and Azure Data Factory.
• Experience with automated data transformation and curation using dbt and Spark Streaming.
• Experience with workflow management and orchestration tools such as Airflow.
