As a Software Engineer in India at Build AI, you will develop the essential systems that power large-scale data collection operations. In this role, you will create tools to support field teams as they recruit workers, manage wearable cameras, handle device collections, upload footage, and coordinate payments. A typical day involves collaborating closely with company founders and operations staff to pinpoint challenges, rapidly ship solutions, and refine products based on actual field performance. You will take full ownership of your work from initial concept through deployment and ongoing support, building reliable web and mobile tools that function seamlessly even under difficult conditions. This position demands a versatile engineer who is comfortable handling full-stack development and quickly adapting to learn whatever technologies are necessary for the task.

Responsibilities

• Develop web and mobile tools for internal operations, partners, and field teams.
• Create operational workflows for worker onboarding, device assignment, tracking, and payments.
• Design dashboards to monitor collection volume, data quality, and operational costs.
• Connect applications with data storage, upload, and quality assurance systems.
• Ensure field workflows remain reliable during poor connectivity or failed uploads.
• Automate manual processes to remove bottlenecks and reduce errors.
• Partner directly with operators to diagnose issues and test solutions in the field.
• Manage features through the complete lifecycle from design to deployment and monitoring.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience building and shipping software utilized by real users.
• Proficiency in working across databases, APIs, backends, and frontends.
• Ability to transform vague operational challenges into functional products.
• Skill in debugging issues across infrastructure, application code, and integrations.
• Solid understanding of reliable data handling, testing, and access control.
• Capacity to work independently while communicating effectively with diverse teams.
