Bjak is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join their team in India. Bjak builds technology products used by millions of users across Southeast Asia. As their products and systems continue to scale, the company needs technical leaders to solve difficult engineering problems and elevate engineering standards. In this hands-on role, you will take ownership of the technical direction and execution for major products and systems. A normal day in this position involves designing scalable and reliable systems, writing code, conducting code reviews, debugging, and driving critical engineering projects from the initial idea stage all the way to production. You will also make important architectural decisions, turn ambiguous product problems into clear technical solutions, and mentor other engineers across teams while working in a distributed international environment.

Responsibilities

• Own technical design and execution for major products, systems, and engineering initiatives.
• Design scalable and reliable systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
• Write code, build prototypes, perform code reviews, debug, and solve production problems.
• Drive architecture decisions and balance trade-offs across speed, scalability, reliability, cost, and maintainability.
• Translate ambiguous product problems into clear technical solutions and execution plans.
• Improve engineering quality through system design, testing, security, observability, and best practices.
• Lead technically critical initiatives and mentor engineers across teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production systems.
• Deep expertise in backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
• Strong system design and architecture skills for complex or high-scale systems.
• Strong coding ability and willingness to remain hands-on.
• Track record of technically leading major engineering projects from design through production.
• Ability to make sound technical trade-offs, influence engineers, and solve complex production problems.
• Strong English communication skills for collaborating in a global team.
