As a Senior Engineer, Software at AlphaSense, you will work on the search platform powering market intelligence across billions of documents. Your normal day involves architecting and optimizing distributed systems to handle hundreds of queries per second with millisecond latency, driving platform migrations, and establishing testing and deployment practices. Responsibilities

• Scale distributed systems by architecting and optimizing infrastructure handling billions of documents and hundreds of queries per second.
• Lead platform evolution and drive migration from legacy systems to modern architecture with zero downtime.
• Build engineering excellence through comprehensive monitoring, testing, and deployment practices.
• Optimize performance by profiling and tuning systems from infrastructure to application levels.
• Balance cost and performance in high-throughput distributed environments.

Requirements

• 5+ years building and operating distributed systems in production.
• Experience with large-scale data platforms or high-throughput systems.
• Expertise in distributed systems fundamentals including sharding, replication, consistency, and partition tolerance.
• Strong performance optimization skills to profile, diagnose, and fix bottlenecks across the stack.
• Experience with data pipeline architecture, real-time processing, or database internals.
• Excellence in building observable systems with comprehensive monitoring and alerting.

Good to have

• Experience with search platforms like Vespa, Elasticsearch, Solr, or similar large-scale data systems.
• Experience with Kubernetes, CRDs, and infrastructure as code.
• Background in information retrieval, ranking systems, or recommendation engines.
• Familiarity with hybrid search approaches including lexical and vector search.
• Experience with JVM-based systems and tuning.
