As a Staff Engineer, Software, you will shape the technical direction of systems that ingest, process, and enrich large volumes of data. A normal day in this role involves designing backend services, building high-throughput data pipelines, solving ambiguous technical problems, and using AI-assisted development tools to speed up workflows. You will also lead cross-team initiatives, guide architectural reviews, write RFCs, and mentor engineers across the organization. This remote position offers an opportunity to build scalable systems that turn raw content into structured, searchable intelligence for thousands of enterprise customers worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Define technical architecture and set the roadmap for your area.
• Break down ambiguous business problems into executable technical strategies.
• Build and deliver scalable backend services and high-throughput data pipelines.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software workflows.
• Evaluate and integrate AI/ML capabilities into production systems.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives, RFCs, and architectural reviews.
• Monitor production reliability, SLOs, and troubleshoot issues for owned services.
• Mentor engineers and drive high engineering standards through code reviews.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Python and experience shipping production code in at least two languages.
• Proven track record of designing and owning production systems at scale.
• Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives without formal authority.
• Strong system design skills focusing on scalability, failure modes, and operational costs.
• Deep DevOps and operational experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability.
• Demonstrated history of mentoring engineers and improving team practices.

Good to have

• Experience leading large-scale migrations or platform rewrites.
• Hands-on production experience with AI, LLMs, NLP pipelines, or document understanding systems.
• Familiarity with Java and content processing or search systems at scale.
• Experience with GitOps, ArgoCD, or Infrastructure as Code.
