Senior Engineering Manager - Product Platforms

As a Senior Engineering Manager for Product Platforms, you will lead teams building shared product platforms, focusing on API-first platforms that power multiple product surfaces, integrations, and agentic workflows, alongside a business-critical usage platform that meters and tracks AI credit consumption. This is a people-management role where you will oversee hiring, growth, delivery, and operational health, partnering closely with Product, SRE, and Finance across time zones. On a normal day, you might guide roadmap commitments, uphold API governance, engage in technical design discussions with engineers, and collaborate with business stakeholders to solve complex, ambiguous problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow, and develop a team of backend and platform engineers across API and usage areas.
• Own delivery, roadmap commitments, execution quality, and predictable outcomes for shared platforms.
• Oversee the direction of usage metering, AI credit accounting, accuracy, and auditability.
• Partner with Product to shape a platform roadmap driven by real customer needs.
• Hire strong engineers, build pipelines, and manage performance and career development.
• Uphold API governance, versioning strategy, and backward compatibility for dependent teams.
• Own operational excellence, including SLOs, observability, on-call health, and incident follow-through.
• Partner with Finance, RevOps, and Pricing on consumption models, quotas, and reporting.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing backend or platform engineering teams, including hiring and career development.
• Strong hands-on engineering background in backend or distributed systems prior to management.
• Experience with product platforms or shared services consumed by multiple product teams.
• Track record of delivering and operating APIs at scale with grounding in RESTful API design.
• Experience with data-intensive systems like high-volume event ingestion, aggregation, and reporting.
• Comfort with ambiguity and ability to influence technical direction across teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Good to have

• Experience with consumption or usage-based business models, metering, entitlements, and billing.
• Experience with AI cost, token, or credit accounting systems.
• Experience building or enabling agentic and AI-driven workflows and orchestration.
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar agent integration patterns.
• Experience leading globally distributed teams.
