As a Staff Engineer, Software at AlphaSense India, you will shape technical direction, mentor engineers, and drive architecture for large-scale systems. The team designs and operates robust backend services and high-throughput data pipelines that ingest, process, and enrich content like filings, transcripts, and news into structured intelligence. In a normal day, you will take ambiguous business problems and turn them into concrete technical strategies, design production-grade systems, leverage AI-assisted development tools, lead cross-team initiatives, and own your services end-to-end from requirements to production monitoring and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and define architecture alongside product leadership
- Scope ambiguous problems and break them down into deliverable increments
- Design and deliver scalable pipelines, backend services, and high-performance solutions
- Leverage AI tools and integrate AI/ML capabilities into production systems
- Drive cross-team technical initiatives, leading RFCs and architectural reviews
- Own services end-to-end, monitoring SLOs/SLIs and troubleshooting production issues
- Raise the engineering bar through code reviews, mentorship, and technical documentation
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Python with production code experience in at least two languages
- Designed and owned production systems serving real users at scale with consequential architectural decisions
- Led cross-team technical initiatives without formal authority, such as migrations or platform changes
- Strong system design instincts focusing on failure modes, data flow, scalability, and operational cost
- Deep DevOps and operational experience including Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability
- Proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising team standards
Good to have
- Experience leading large-scale migrations or platform rewrites
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML in production such as LLMs, NLP pipelines, or document understanding
- Experience with content processing, enrichment, or search systems at scale
- Familiarity with Java and experience with GitOps, ArgoCD, or Infrastructure as Code
- Active practitioner of AI-assisted development in everyday engineering workflows
