Senior Software Engineer (Onboarding & Activation)

Bitwarden is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Onboarding & Activation team in Noida. Bitwarden provides leading open source password management and enterprise-grade security solutions globally. In this role, you will own the revenue-critical back-end logic that manages the user journey from initial setup to a paying customer. Your daily tasks involve building and maintaining back-end services for trial states, activation tracking, and upgrade paywall gating. You will collaborate closely with the Billing team and other globally distributed colleagues through written communication to ensure seamless subscription, plan, and payment-method experiences. You will design testable services, manage data schemas, and uphold strict security standards while working in an asynchronous environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain back-end logic for trial initiation, lifecycle, and user eligibility rules.
• Implement entitlement and gating logic behind upgrade paywalls to sync with user plans.
• Design and maintain back-end services and data models for onboarding and activation progress.
• Coordinate with the Billing team regarding API contracts for subscription, plan, and licensing data.
• Design clean, testable services with explicit outcome handling to prevent silent failures.
• Author safe, backwards-compatible data access and schema changes for trial and onboarding models.
• Uphold payment-security and privacy standards by avoiding raw card data, secrets, and PII in logs.
• Review pull requests, raise back-end quality, and partner with front-end, Product, and AppSec teams.

Requirements

• 6-10 years of experience in back-end software engineering.
• Strong preference for C#/.NET (ASP.NET Core) or experience in Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar statically-typed stacks.
• Experience with correctness-critical state and event handling in systems affecting access or payment.
• Strong SQL skills and ability to make safe, additive, backwards-compatible schema changes.
• Ability to drive work independently and collaborate effectively across time zones on a distributed team.
• Experience with subscription, trial, or entitlement/feature-gating systems.
• Familiarity with feature-flagged rollouts using tools like LaunchDarkly.
• Comfort working in a large, high-traffic monorepo with shared ownership.
