Matillion, the company behind the AI Data Automation platform Maia, is looking for a Staff Software Engineer for their Billing team based in Hyderabad. Matillion builds tools that combine data expertise with agentic AI to help organizations like Cisco, Slack, and DocuSign handle exploding data demands. In this role, you will act as the most senior technical voice on a five-person team in Hyderabad, guiding daily delivery, unblocking colleagues, and partnering with product and engineering managers. Your typical day involves working in two-week sprints on third-party and marketplace integrations, reviewing code, improving microservices and observability practices, handling incident response, and collaborating with cross-functional groups like Finance, GTM, and Data Science on ML capabilities for Maia.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical lead for the Billing team, guiding and unblocking two junior engineers, two mid-level engineers, and one QA engineer.
• Lead design reviews and own hands-on integrations with third-party billing and marketplace platforms from production to deployment.
• Review code to meet engineering standards with a focus on product, quality, DevOps, and security.
• Translate sprint requirements from managers into clear technical direction and become the domain expert in billing architecture.
• Participate in out-of-hours on-call, support triage and incident response, and engage customer-facing teams to prevent user issues.
• Mentor team members and contribute to cross-team work like ML capability development with the Data Science team for Maia.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Java with solid grounding in object-oriented design and distributed systems.
• Working React knowledge in a full-stack capacity.
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle using CI/CD tooling and agile methodologies.
• Hands-on experience in at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proven experience integrating with multiple third-party or marketplace platforms.
• A bias for action, autonomy in problem-solving, and strong mentoring abilities.

• Billing or usage-based and credit-consumption experience
