Hevo Data in Pune is looking for a Tech Lead Manager - Autonomous Connectors to lead a small team while remaining deeply hands-on. The company is building an AI system designed to create and maintain data connectors autonomously, reducing tasks that normally take months down to hours. In this role, about sixty percent of your time will involve coding, architecture, design, and handling production issues. You will own key components of the Connector Builder Agent and database connector infrastructure. A normal day involves solving complex challenges related to automated API documentation understanding, schema evolution, and evaluation systems for probabilistic outputs, while also hiring and mentoring team members to elevate their technical skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 4 to 6 engineers while spending about 60 percent of time on hands-on coding and architecture.
- Own a major part of the Connector Builder Agent and existing connector platform infrastructure.
- Solve problems regarding automated API documentation understanding, schema discovery, and handling API changes.
- Build evaluation systems and define confidence thresholds and escalation paths for autonomous actions.
- Hire 2 to 3 engineers over the next year and mentor them to become better engineers.
- Collaborate closely with other engineering teams managing different parts of the system.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience building backend, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
- At least 1 year of technical leadership experience, with or without a formal title.
- Experience operating production systems and handling incidents, reliability, and SLAs.
- Experience building and operating an LLM-powered system in production where reliability and correctness mattered.
- Hands-on experience with agents, evaluations, retrieval, tool use, or model failure modes.
- Experience with multi-tenant systems, high availability, or large data volumes.
- Strong proficiency in Java, Kubernetes, or another JVM/systems language.
Good to have
- Experience with data infrastructure, CDC, ETL, or database internals.
- Experience with open source systems.
