DevOps Engineer
About this job
Smallest is hiring a DevOps Engineer in Bengaluru for a hands-on, execution-focused role. At Smallest, infrastructure is treated as the product rather than just a support function. In this position, you will build and run systems that operate reliably in production. Your main duty will be to take approved system architecture and turn it into real, working infrastructure by translating High-Level Designs into practical Low-Level Designs. On a normal day, you will work directly on production systems by deploying, scaling, observing, fixing, and continuously improving them. You will handle tasks such as managing cloud infrastructure, running Kubernetes clusters, building CI/CD pipelines, and troubleshooting production incidents. The company values practical skills, ownership, and deep system understanding over formal years of experience or titles, making it ideal for those who enjoy fast-paced environments.
Responsibilities
- Implement and manage AWS-centric cloud infrastructure using Terraform
- Operate Kubernetes (EKS) clusters across multiple environments
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
- Deploy services using Helm and Argo CD and build Docker images
- Configure monitoring, alerting, and logging using New Relic and CloudWatch
- Manage AWS networking elements like VPCs, subnets, routing, and security groups
- Support messaging and database infrastructure including RabbitMQ, SQS, Redis, and MongoDB
- Troubleshoot production incidents and participate in postmortems
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS and Kubernetes
- Solid Linux and networking fundamentals
- CI/CD pipeline design and ownership mindset
- Production debugging and incident handling experience
- Knowledge of SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets
Good to have
- Startup or scale-up production exposure
- DevOps/SRE side projects or homelabs
- Open-source contributions in the cloud-native ecosystem
- Experience with cost optimization and capacity planning
- Helm and GitOps-based deployment workflows
Who should apply
This role suits candidates who possess a strong action bias, high ownership, and practical experience in building and running production infrastructure. If you have gained your skills through startups, side projects, homelabs, open-source work, or real production failures rather than just traditional years of experience, you should apply. Candidates who love automation, can debug calmly under pressure, and want to make systems reliably stable will find this position a great fit.
