About this job

Abnormal is a cybersecurity company that protects organizations from various digital threats across cloud applications, email, and identity platforms. The company's Data Platform powers critical detection systems and customer-facing products by providing essential data foundations. Within this platform, the DIP Ingestion team creates the runtime systems and integrations needed to pull external data securely into Abnormal. As a Software Engineer II focusing on Data Integration Platform Ingestion, you will work on building and running scalable backend services and data pipelines. In a typical day, you will design and implement new feature capabilities, build secure third-party integrations, optimize data freshness, participate in code reviews, collaborate asynchronously with cross-functional teams, and troubleshoot production issues. You will own features from initial concept through design, implementation, and launch while growing your technical expertise alongside experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve secure, scalable integrations that collect data from third-party APIs and deliver it to downstream systems.
  • Own complex, well-scoped features end to end from requirements to implementation, testing, launch, and measurement.
  • Contribute to ingestion-platform capabilities including reusable connector patterns and self-serve integration workflows.
  • Utilize AI-assisted tools for development and troubleshooting while maintaining strict ownership of production quality.
  • Improve ingestion freshness and reliability by tracking service-level goals, handling errors, and addressing data gaps.
  • Diagnose issues across vendor APIs and services, participate in on-call rotations, and create durable fixes for recurring failures.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with product and platform partners through design discussions, code reviews, and documentation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on production backend development in Python.
  • Experience delivering complex features by translating problems into technical approaches, implementations, and launches.
  • Strong fundamentals in backend design, APIs, data modeling, testing, debugging, and performance.
  • Experience operating production services and using logs, metrics, and alerts to resolve issues.
  • Familiarity with cloud services and deployment practices, specifically AWS.
  • Clear written communication skills to clarify requirements with teammates and stakeholders.

Good to have

  • Experience with Go, Kafka or other messaging systems, and distributed data pipelines.
  • Experience integrating with third-party SaaS APIs regarding authentication, pagination, and rate limits.
  • Familiarity with Docker or container technologies and SQL databases.
  • Experience with batch or snapshot ingestion, workflow orchestration, or configuration-driven frameworks.

Who should apply

This role is best suited for backend software engineers with at least three years of professional experience building production services in Python and managing cloud environments like AWS.
