At Netskope, the Sr. Staff Engineer, Secure Web Gateway role involves joining a dynamic team that builds modern security and networking solutions for the cloud and AI era. Netskope is a recognized leader in cloud, data, and AI security, trusting platforms like the Netskope One platform and NewEdge network to provide visibility and control without performance trade-offs. In this role, you will be a core member of the NG-SWG team supporting industry-leading Secure Web Gateway products. A normal day in this position involves defining architectural designs and technical directions, collaborating with Product Management to translate customer requirements into features, building scalable cloud-based security systems, and designing services to inspect network protocols at line rate. You will also develop threat mitigation features for Generative AI applications, utilize advanced data structures and algorithms, and mentor team members while solving complex architectural and data plane challenges.

Responsibilities

• Set and drive overall architectural design and strategic technical directions for the SWG team.
• Design and implement high-quality, reliable, scalable, and observable features for the data plane.
• Collaborate with Product Management to analyze customer requirements and deliver architectural guidance.
• Build scalable and performant services to inspect network protocols like HTTP and HTTPS at line rate.
• Design and develop cloud-based security systems to detect and mitigate threats on LLM APIs and Generative AI applications.
• Integrate core security features including data loss prevention and threat protection.
• Provide technical leadership by sharing industry-leading practices and handling complex customer issues.

Requirements

• 15+ years of overall experience, with 8+ years building high-performance networking software and cloud services.
• Expertise in high throughput and low latency data systems across Layer 3 to Layer 7 networking and web proxies.
• Programming mastery in C, C++, or Python with code review capabilities.
• Demonstrated experience using advanced LLM-based coding agents in real engineering work.
• Proven experience in designing large-scale, secure, and cloud-native systems.
• Strong understanding of computer architecture including multi-threading, memory management, and Linux at the kernel level.
• Willingness to work with a globally distributed team across different time zones.

Good to have

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills using debuggers like gdb and tools like Valgrind.
• Familiarity with test-driven development and unit testing frameworks.
• Experience with threat detection, DLP, and security policy enforcement.
• Knowledge of LLM provider schemas, streaming formats, agentic protocols, and orchestration frameworks like LangChain.
• Understanding of emerging generative AI and cloud service security challenges.
