Backbase in Hyderabad is hiring a Staff Engineer I. In this full-time role, you act as a trusted technical authority for a broad business domain, focusing on managing technical complexity rather than people. Your core mission is to align teams, spread best practices, and help other engineers grow to ensure the department moves faster and safer. A normal day involves tackling difficult technical challenges across multiple teams, owning high-level designs for multi-service capabilities to guarantee security and scalability, leading large strategic initiatives, and writing complex core code for others to build upon. You will also serve as the main approver for critical-path design reviews, contribute to senior-level performance evaluations, and lead the adoption of AI-native engineering tools and workflows to speed up development.

Responsibilities

• Solve difficult technical challenges across multiple teams to remove volatility and ambiguity.
• Own high-level design for multi-service capabilities with embedded security and scalability.
• Lead large strategic initiatives by driving architecture and execution strategy across teams.
• Write complex core code and skeletal systems that other teams build upon.
• Act as the primary approver for critical-path design reviews and major technical initiatives.
• Contribute evidence-based endorsements for Senior-level performance evaluations.
• Lead the adoption of agentic tooling, LLM workflows, and AI automation to accelerate development.

Requirements

• Have 10+ years of experience with a strong track record in designing and delivering complex software systems.
• Possess T-shaped skills with deep expertise in one area and broad competence across the full stack.
• Excel at influencing without authority to shape decisions across teams through expertise and persuasion.
• Demonstrate a high focus on craft and proactivity in addressing cultural and technical debt.
• Ensure current quarterly execution aligns with technical excellence.
