US Payroll Specialist
About this job
As a US Payroll Specialist at Toast in Chennai, you will manage end-to-end payroll operations for the North America region from an internal team rather than an outsourced provider. Toast creates digital technology solutions to help restaurants and local businesses operate efficiently, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy. In this hybrid role, your daily work involves processing US and Canadian payrolls, handling off-cycle runs, resolving ServiceNow support tickets, updating employee data in Workday, and managing compliance and tax requirements. You will also review transactional work, generate labor cost reports, investigate discrepancies, collaborate with cross-functional teams like Total Rewards, and support system testing cycles. This position requires working aligned with US Eastern business hours, including adapting to daylight saving time changes.
Responsibilities
- Process end-to-end and off-cycle US and Canadian payrolls for assigned employees accurately and on time.
- Resolve employee inquiries and ServiceNow tickets while meeting established SLAs.
- Maintain data integrity in Workday as the primary source and handle EIB data loads.
- Generate regular and ad hoc reports on payroll data, labor costs, and compliance metrics.
- Support payroll tax adjustments, SUI rate updates, and Equifax platform maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and support audit processes.
- Collaborate with Total Rewards and assist in documenting Standard Operating Procedures.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of payroll processing experience.
- 3+ years of working directly in the Workday Payroll module within multi-state organizations.
- Hands-on experience processing payroll in Workday, ADP, and CloudPay.
- Strong understanding of US and Canadian payroll regulations and multi-jurisdiction tax requirements.
- Willingness and ability to work aligned to US Eastern business hours, including daylight saving time.
- Strong oral, written communication, and organizational skills with great attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical payroll experience.
Good to have
- FPC or CPP certifications.
- Experience in an in-house or corporate payroll environment instead of a third-party bureau or BPO.
- Familiarity with AI, Power BI, and Excel-based reporting tools.
