Operating in a regulated environment, the company processes massive transaction volumes through a reliable, scalable infrastructure supported by major investors and a multi-national team. As the first dedicated Senior Database Reliability Engineer based in Pune, you will play a crucial role in raising the operational resilience of the core payments platform. This hands-on position combines Site Reliability Engineering principles with deep database expertise. A normal day involves ensuring production databases are observable and diagnosable, leading deep-dive incident diagnoses, building proactive guardrails, partnering with engineering squads on scalable schemas, and improving monitoring dashboards to maintain high availability and performance.

Responsibilities

• Own production database reliability, performance, and observability for systems like PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora.
• Lead incident root-cause analysis by examining query performance, lock contention, and connection-pool behavior.
• Implement proactive guardrails including statement timeouts, connection standards, and saturation monitoring.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to design scalable schemas, indexes, and safe database practices.
• Contribute database-reliability insights to platform evolution initiatives like read and write path separation.
• Enhance database observability tools and dashboards to detect trends before incidents occur.
• Foster a culture of operational excellence through blameless post-mortems and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Substantial hands-on experience operating production PostgreSQL, with Aurora or RDS being a strong plus.
• True SRE mindset with familiarity in observability, metrics, tracing, alerting, automation, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Proven strength in performance tuning, query plan analysis, lock contention resolution, and connection-pool management.
• Background in supporting high-availability, low-tolerance systems where correctness and uptime are critical.
• Strong communication skills to lead live incidents and explain root causes to diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash alongside working knowledge of AWS and Kubernetes environments.

Good to have

• Prior exposure to payments, fintech, or other regulated and high-availability domains.
• Experience with data-observability tooling or connection managers like PgBouncer and RDS Proxy.
• Familiarity with breaking down monolithic databases and implementing read/write separation.
