Senior Detection and Response Engineer
About this job
At Anyscale, the team works on democratizing distributed computing and commercializing Ray, an open-source project powering scalable machine learning for major companies like OpenAI and Uber. As a Senior Detection and Response Engineer, you will play a high-ownership role in shaping how the company handles security events as it scales. Reporting to the Head of Security, your normal day will involve owning the detection pipeline and centralized correlation alerting, driving the detection of anomalous activity across cloud, endpoint, and Kubernetes footprints, and managing incident response. You will tune detections to minimize noise, partner with infrastructure security and IT to bridge gaps, lead incident retrospectives, and ensure robust coverage across production and corporate environments while working closely with engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Build and own detection coverage across cloud, endpoint, and runtime telemetry.
- Manage a centralized correlation and alerting capability for actionable detections.
- Handle end-to-end incident response including runbooks, escalation paths, and live coordination.
- Detect anomalous activity across all company environments, including Kubernetes.
- Tune detections for high signal and low noise while tracking performance metrics.
- Conduct incident retrospectives and integrate lessons back into security controls.
- Collaborate with IT and infrastructure security to address discovered gaps.
Requirements
- 6+ years of security experience focusing on detection engineering and incident response.
- Hands-on background building correlations across cloud, EDR, and container telemetry.
- Proven experience owning incident response end to end and leading during live events.
- Ability to build and scale detection and response functions rather than just operating them.
- Strong judgment under pressure with clear communication skills during incidents.
- Experience collaborating with engineering and IT teams to close operational security gaps.
Good to have
- Experience with SIEM platforms, detection tools, or detection-as-code methods.
- Familiarity with runtime security tooling like Upwind.
- Background in threat hunting or purple-team exercises.
- Previous exposure to AI, ML platforms, or distributed systems.
Who should apply
This role suits experienced security professionals with a strong background in detection engineering and incident response, particularly those coming from high-growth startups. If you excel at building security capabilities from the ground up, maintaining a calm demeanor under pressure during live incidents, and collaborating seamlessly with engineering teams, you will thrive in this position. Freshers are not eligible to apply as the role strictly requires at least 6 years of relevant security experience.
