The company is seeking a Senior Linux Systems Engineer, also known as a Linux L3 Engineer, to join the Linux Operations team in Chennai or Pune. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, supporting, and optimizing Linux servers within production environments across hosted, cloud, and remote setups. Your daily responsibilities will include taking charge of high-priority incident resolutions, performing advanced root-cause analysis, building automation scripts using Ansible and shell, executing changes within ServiceNow, and mentoring junior engineers. You will also participate in 24/7 rotational shifts and on-call support to ensure high availability and compliance for critical business systems.
Responsibilities
- Resolve high-priority incidents and major outages with end-to-end ownership
- Perform advanced root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes
- Develop Ansible playbooks and shell scripts to automate repetitive tasks
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and operational runbooks
- Execute infrastructure changes within change management frameworks
- Act as a technical mentor and reference point for junior team members
- Communicate status updates clearly with internal teams and external clients
Requirements
- 8+ years of production Linux/Unix administration and support experience
- Deep knowledge of RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu
- Advanced troubleshooting skills covering kernel, networking, storage, and performance tuning
- Strong shell scripting and Ansible automation experience
- Hands-on experience with AWS EC2, GCP, and Azure VMs in production
- Experience with monitoring platforms like Datadog, Azure Monitor, or Prometheus
- Ability to work in 24/7 rotational shifts and on-call rotations
Good to have
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes orchestration tools
- Familiarity with disaster recovery procedures
- Understanding of infrastructure-as-code initiatives
