As a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer - Site Reliability Engineer at Ensono in Pune, India, you will play a visionary role in redefining the reliability, automation, and efficiency of critical z/OS systems. This position bridges traditional mainframe expertise with modern Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, integrating observability, AI-driven operations, and DevOps into legacy workflows to create self-healing systems. A normal day involves designing Infrastructure-as-Code solutions, eliminating manual toil, implementing AI-driven predictive analytics, managing incident responses, streamlining CI/CD pipelines, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align platform resilience with business service level objectives.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Ansible, Zowe CLI, and z/OSMF workflows.
• Develop self-healing workflows for critical subsystems like CICS, Db2, and IMS to auto-resolve incidents.
• Implement predictive analytics tools and build dashboards using Grafana or Prometheus to visualize system metrics.
• Streamline software delivery pipelines and integrate mainframe SDLC processes with enterprise Git repositories.
• Optimize CPU and MIPS utilization through runtime tuning and forecast capacity demands using SMF and RMF data.
• Lead blameless postmortems for critical incidents, perform root cause analysis, and reduce MTTR with automated playbooks.
• Enforce security best practices, vulnerability remediation, and design dynamic resource allocation strategies.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in z/OS system programming, performance tuning, or infrastructure support.
• Proficiency in JCL, REXX, Python, and mainframe automation tools such as IBM Z System Automation and Broadcom OPS/MVS.
• Hands-on experience with Zowe, Ansible, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Mastery of SRE tenets including SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Proven track record in implementing AI and ML-driven monitoring or auto-remediation for mainframe environments.
• Experience modernizing legacy workflows by replacing traditional tools with Git-based SDLC.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Good to have

• Experience with AI-Driven Automation platforms like AMELIA AIOps and ServiceNow integration.
• Certifications in IBM z/OS System Programming, Broadcom Mainframe SRE, or Hashicorp Terraform.
• Familiarity with Zowe Desktop for modern IDE-driven development or Dynatrace APM.
• Knowledge of mainframe open-source ecosystems or hybrid-cloud integrations.
