MongoDB is hiring a Staff Engineer for its Application Modernization Platform (AMP) team in Gurugram. The platform helps organizations modernize legacy applications by moving workloads and data from relational databases to MongoDB. The Platform team builds shared foundations that connect specialized tools through consistent interfaces, integrating them with AI agents and development environments while ensuring they remain secure and easy to operate. In this role, you will set technical direction, lead delivery, and combine systems engineering with product judgment. A normal day involves turning ambiguous requirements into reusable services, defining service boundaries, making build-versus-integrate decisions, writing foundational code, and mentoring engineers. You will work closely with product teams and external partners to remove infrastructure roadblocks, ensuring customers can adopt AMP capabilities smoothly and reliably in a hybrid work setting.

Responsibilities

• Formulate core service layers and integration frameworks enabling seamless AMP functionality.
• Spearhead engineering initiatives to expose platform capabilities via resilient CLI tools and APIs.
• Optimize distribution, automated upgrades, and runtime execution across client enterprise environments.
• Collaborate with security engineers to safeguard intellectual property and embed security controls into release pipelines.
• Align product management, field teams, and external technical partners to translate user demands into roadmaps.
• Author core infrastructure components, lead architectural reviews, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Over 8 years in software engineering and production operations with a history of scalable architectures.
• Deep practical expertise architecting common frameworks, distributed architectures, or core developer tooling.
• Track record of establishing and refining service boundaries, interfaces, and data schemas with backward compatibility.
• Practical expertise maintaining mission-critical services, observability, incident recovery, and automated testing.
• Demonstrated success constructing safe integrations and implementing strict authentication mechanisms.
• Ability to spearhead architectural direction across team boundaries and mentor engineers.
• Sharp product judgment that converts developer requirements and user feedback into clear roadmaps.

Good to have

• Hands-on experience embedding intelligent agents or language model workflows into enterprise platforms.
• Expertise delivering developer-centric software like CLIs, custom SDKs, or containerized architectures.
• In-depth background in application modernization, relational database systems, and MongoDB ecosystems.
