The Engineering Manager for Control Plane and Distributed Systems at Zscaler involves leading a team of software engineers to build scalable, high-availability distributed systems for the ZPA engineering team in Hyderabad. In this hybrid role, you will guide professionals who are developing the world's largest cloud security platform from the ground up. Zscaler accelerates digital transformation and protects thousands of customers worldwide through its SASE-based Zero Trust Exchange platform. A normal day in this position consists of overseeing software development, designing and implementing reliable microservices, collaborating with product managers and other engineering leaders, monitoring system performance, troubleshooting complex issues, and optimizing security to maintain high availability across critical cloud systems.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and lead a team of 6-8 software engineers to develop performant, scalable, and secure software.
- Lead the design and implementation of distributed systems using technologies like Kafka, Elasticsearch, Druid, and Opensearch.
- Deliver reliable microservices and distributed solutions while ensuring overall system reliability.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and optimize security for critical cloud systems.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineering leaders to translate technical goals into business results.
Requirements
- Foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience leveraging or securing AI-driven solutions.
- 10+ years of engineering leadership experience, including 3+ years managing global teams across the entire SDLC.
- Deep knowledge of distributed software architectures, cloud services like AWS, GCP, and Azure, and system monitoring solutions.
- Proven ability to lead teams in delivering highly distributed solutions.
- Skilled at partnering with product management to turn technical vision into execution.

- Experience leveraging AI coding assistants, automated code review tooling, or LLM-assisted development workflows.
- A consistent track record of taking ownership and delivering high-quality results in a predictable fashion.
