As an Engineering Manager for Data at OpenFX in Bengaluru, you will lead the Data Engineering pod and steer the data platform that processes billions of dollars in monthly transaction volume. The Data Engineering team handles everything from real-time and batch ingestion across global corridors to maintaining the lakehouse's bronze, silver, and gold layers. On a typical day, you will guide technical execution, set architectural standards, manage data quality and governance, oversee platform costs, support team members in their professional growth, and occasionally roll up your sleeves to write SQL or Python code and debug complex pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the Data Engineering pod, driving the roadmap and engineering standards.
• Manage end-to-end ingestion of batch, streaming, and change data capture from internal systems and banking partners.
• Oversee the lakehouse layers, ensuring raw, conformed, and modelled datasets remain reliable and well-documented.
• Establish robust data quality, observability, freshness, and incident response frameworks.
• Implement data governance policies including PII masking, lineage coverage, and regulatory compliance readiness.
• Monitor and optimize platform storage and compute costs relative to business value.
• Build a self-serve data environment for product teams, analysts, and data scientists.

Requirements

• 8+ years of total experience in data engineering.
• 4+ years of experience managing a data engineering team with senior engineers reporting in.
• Experience operating within regulated or audited environments.
• Demonstrated experience running production pipelines and a lakehouse or warehouse at scale.
• Deep expertise in modern data engineering including ingestion, open table formats, and layered modeling.
• Track record of leading major platform decisions or migrations from evaluation to production.
• Hands-on technical proficiency with SQL, Python, and pipeline debugging.
• Demonstrated hiring, performance management, and people-first leadership skills.

Good to have

• Experience running data engineering in fintech, payments, banking, or exchanges.
• Background in ingesting and normalising money-movement data from external banking partners.
• Experience rolling out data contracts, data catalogs, or organization-wide quality programs.
• Production experience with streaming and change-data-capture pipelines.
• Hands-on involvement in GDPR, PCI DSS, DORA, SOC 2, or ISO 27001 data audits.
