SDET (L2) - Banking
About this job
OpenFX is building the infrastructure that powers cross-border payments for institutions, including programmatic FX, settlement, collections, and payouts through a single API. As an SDET (L2) for the Banking team in Bengaluru, you will own backend quality engineering for core money movement systems like ledgers, payouts, reconciliation, and settlement. Your role involves designing and evolving scalable automation frameworks, validating financial correctness, testing failure behaviors in distributed systems, and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines. A normal day includes collaborating directly with backend engineers and product teams during design discussions, writing automation code, building test infrastructure, debugging issues, and ensuring critical money flows remain correct under real-world conditions. You will help move the team from testing individual flows to building a robust quality engineering system that supports high transaction volumes without compromising financial accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve scalable automation frameworks for APIs, services, databases, and banking workflows.
- Test financial correctness across transaction processing, ledger consistency, reconciliation, settlement, and payouts.
- Validate failure behaviors such as retries, idempotency, concurrency, timeouts, and partial failures.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD deployment pipelines to create reliable quality gates.
- Build and maintain test environments, mocks, simulators, and containerized test runners using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Drive performance and resilience testing for high-volume financial workloads using tools like JMeter or k6.
- Work with engineers early in development to identify risks, edge cases, and testability gaps.
Requirements
- Experience building or significantly extended backend automation frameworks.
- Strong skills in testing REST APIs, backend services, databases, and service-to-service integrations.
- Ability to reason about distributed-system failure modes including retries, concurrency, and idempotency.
- Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries to validate data integrity and system behavior.
- Understanding of how to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong fundamentals in debugging, clean code, Git, and data structures and algorithms.
- Ability to independently understand complex systems and translate risks into test strategies.
Good to have
- Experience testing payments, banking, fintech, or correctness-critical systems.
- Production-quality automation coding skills in Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python.
- Understanding of double-entry accounting or financial ledger principles.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, and AWS services.
- Hands-on experience with performance testing tools like JMeter or k6.
Who should apply
This role suits engineers with solid experience in backend automation, API testing, and distributed system validation, ideally within fintech or correctness-critical environments. You should enjoy collaborating closely with developers, thinking deeply about edge cases and failure modes, and shaping quality engineering strategy. The posting does not mention whether freshers can apply, so candidates should possess the required backend automation and testing background stated in the qualifications.
