Skillz, a publicly-traded mobile eSports platform, is looking for a Head - SRE for its Bengaluru, Karnataka, India location. Skillz hosts casual mobile gaming tournaments globally, helping developers build franchises and enabling real-money activity through a supportive operational platform. In this hands-on engineering leadership role, you will lead the Infrastructure and Security domain across geographies like Las Vegas and Bengaluru. A normal day involves overseeing platform reliability, managing incident responses, reviewing infrastructure architecture for scalability and security, optimizing cloud costs, and mentoring engineering team members. You will partner with product engineering, legal, and finance teams to ensure high availability, compliance, and developer productivity.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow DevOps and SRE functions across Las Vegas and Bengaluru with clear on-call ownership.
• Own SLAs, incident response end-to-end, and serve as the escalation owner for P0/P1 events.
• Partner with product engineering on system design reviews focusing on scalability, reliability, and security.
• Manage the Infra Opex budget and execute cloud spend reduction initiatives.
• Own the CI/CD platform, dev environment tooling, and deployment pipeline reliability.
• Partner with Legal and Finance on SOX and PCI DSS compliance obligations.
• Provide technical mentorship, day-to-day guidance, and foster blameless post-mortems.

Requirements

• 15+ years of infrastructure engineering experience with public cloud at scale.
• 5+ years running Kubernetes workloads in production, with EKS preferred.
• Proven track record in building or overhauling observability stacks for distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD frameworks such as ArgoCD or GitHub Actions.
• Demonstrated track record leading infrastructure reliability initiatives with quantified outcomes.
• Experience debugging complex distributed systems and reading application code in Go, Python, or Java.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English to engage senior leadership.

Good to have

• Gaming or fintech experience in a real-money, regulated environment.
• Experience working with geographically distributed engineering teams.
• Experience building 0 to 1 teams or standing up functions from scratch.
• Prior budget ownership or Opex accountability.
