Staff Backend Engineer, AI Platform

As a Staff Backend Engineer on the AI Platform team in Bengaluru, you will help deliver a reliable, secure, and massive-scale platform. The role involves designing and operating low-latency, real-time microservices that process and detect sensitive information. On a normal day, you will likely work on architecting scalable backend infrastructure, optimizing AI and machine learning services for real-time inferencing, building robust authentication and API systems, maintaining critical databases, and ensuring high observability and reliability across distributed systems. You will also collaborate with team members to solve complex architectural challenges and lead technical initiatives to keep data protection on autopilot.

Responsibilities

• Build highly available and secure authentication and API services.
• Maintain and evolve mission-critical internal databases and services.
• Architect, optimize, and operate high-volume, auto-scaling, reliable, real-time data infrastructure.
• Optimize AI services to scale models for low-latency, real-time machine learning inferencing and agentic AI processing.
• Build observability at scale to gain detailed insights into customer usage and performance.
• Write and maintain documentation for internal and public services.

Requirements

• Expertise in one or more systems or high-level programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, or C++ with eagerness to learn more.
• Experience running scalable systems handling thousands of requests per second with high reliability.
• Experience developing complex distributed systems scaling to substantial data volumes or millions of users.
• Experience with large-scale distributed storage and database systems like SQL or NoSQL options including Postgres and Cassandra.
• Ability to decompose complex business problems and lead a team in solving them.
• Experience building and maintaining large-scale or real-time complex data processing pipelines using tools like Kafka, Flink, Snowflake, or Databricks.
• 8+ years of experience with proven technical leadership and prowess in scalable, distributed architectures.

Good to have

• Experience with real-time machine learning inferencing at very high scale.
• Experience building agentic AI systems at very high scale.
• Experience building evaluation pipelines.
