Security Engineer, GIOC
About this job
Vultr is a fast-growing, privately held cloud infrastructure company building its first Global Integrated Operations Command Center in Chennai. As a Security Engineer for Vultr, you will serve as the frontline of defense by monitoring security signals across SIEM, threat, identity, and access alerts. Your team ensures continuous security oversight and rapid threat containment for Vultr's global cloud platform. A normal day involves observing a consolidated single-pane-of-glass dashboard, acknowledging and triaging incoming alerts within strict SLAs, executing documented runbooks to contain common security events, and documenting every action with strict chain-of-custody. You will also escalate complex issues to senior engineers and collaborate on shift handovers. Because this command center operates around the clock, you will work a rotational shift model that includes nights, weekends, and holidays to sustain continuous coverage.

- Acknowledge and triage security alerts within defined first-response SLAs.
- Classify alert severity, perform initial reviews, and route tickets to the correct escalation paths.
- Execute documented runbooks to investigate and perform first-line containment of security events.
- Document all actions, timestamps, and evidence accurately in incident tickets.
- Escalate unresolved or out-of-scope alerts to Senior Security Engineers with clean handoffs.
- Maintain shift logs and provide thorough shift-handover notes for continuous follow-the-sun operations.
Requirements
- Graduate or Engineer in a relevant field such as B.E., B.Tech, or equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a SOC, security operations, or IT operations environment.
- Working knowledge of security fundamentals, authentication, access, logging, and telemetry.
- Familiarity with SIEM, alert-triage concepts, log analysis, and threat investigation.
- Understanding of incident management fundamentals and severity-based triage.
- Exposure to monitoring tools, observability platforms, and ticketing systems.
- Proficiency in written and verbal English communication.
- Willingness and ability to work a rotational 24x7 shift model including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Good to have
- ITIL V4 Foundation certification or equivalent ITSM knowledge.
- Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or equivalent.
- Scripting familiarity in Bash, Python, or PowerShell for automation.
- Exposure to cloud security and GPU or high-density infrastructure.
- Prior experience in a 24x7 SOC or command center using JIRA, Confluence, PagerDuty, or SIEM.
Who should apply
This role suits security professionals with prior experience in security operations, SOC environments, or IT operations who want to build a career in threat detection and security engineering.
