As a Senior Frontend Engineer at GitLab, you will join an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps trusted by millions of users worldwide. In this role, you will solve high-scope frontend problems, shape product experiences, and help define how modern frontend teams utilize agentic artificial intelligence. The team owns core repository capabilities, ranging from web-based code exploration to Git command-line operations. During a normal day, you will design and ship moderately sized frontend features with minimal guidance, turn ambiguous customer needs into clear technical plans, collaborate across product, design, and backend functions, and incorporate AI tools into your daily workflow. You will also mentor other engineers, advocate for high standards in accessibility, performance, and security, and help establish robust practices for web architecture within a remote-first, asynchronous environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship moderately sized frontend features with minimal guidance and make pragmatic architectural choices.
• Turn ambiguous customer and product needs into clear technical plans and intuitive experiences.
• Advocate for product quality, security, accessibility, performance, and maintainability across the development lifecycle.
• Establish and improve practices for frontend architecture, component design, testing, and thoughtful use of AI tools.
• Mentor Associate and Intermediate Engineers, share knowledge, and remove technical blockers.
• Diagnose and prevent frontend performance and reliability issues at scale using observability signals.
• Collaborate with product, design, backend, quality, and security teams to deliver cohesive customer outcomes.

Requirements

• Experience applying frontend architecture, browser behavior, testing, accessibility, and performance practices.
• Experience designing or evolving modular frontend boundaries, component systems, or migration-safe architectures.
• Experience making pragmatic trade-offs with product and design partners to turn complex requirements into clear user experiences.
• Ability to lead through technical judgment, collaboration, and clear written communication.
• Experience mentoring engineers and improving team practices through code review, design review, or documentation.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, asynchronous organization by managing priorities and communicating in writing.
• Practical experience integrating artificial intelligence into features, workflows, or engineering processes.
