Vultr is building its first Global Integrated Operations Command Center in Chennai to support its global cloud infrastructure. As a Senior System Engineer for the GIOC, you act as the initial point of contact for incident management within Vultr's systems estate, which includes compute, storage, operating systems, and virtualization. In this role, you will monitor health signals from a centralized dashboard, triage and classify alerts, execute documented runbooks to resolve issues, and escalate complex problems to senior engineering teams. A normal day involves working in a rotational shift model that includes nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure continuous 24x7 coverage. You will manage incident lifecycles, maintain accurate operational documentation, and help protect customer experience through fast and accurate first responses in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor systems-estate health signals from a single-pane-of-glass dashboard
- Acknowledge and triage alerts within defined first-response SLA targets
- Match alert signatures to runbooks and resolve common issues end to end
- Classify incidents by severity and route tickets to the correct escalation path
- Escalate unresolved issues to L2/L3 teams with clean handover notes
- Maintain accurate shift logs, ticket updates, and incident timelines
- Identify recurring alerts and contribute to runbook improvements
Requirements
- Graduate/Engineer in a relevant field such as B.E./B.Tech or equivalent
- 5 to 8 years of experience in systems administration, NOC/SOC, or IT operations
- Hands-on Linux and/or Windows server administration experience
- Familiarity with compute, storage, virtualization, and basic networking concepts
- Understanding of incident-management fundamentals and severity-based triage
- Exposure to monitoring tools and ticketing systems
- Willingness and ability to work a rotational 24x7 shift model including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Proficient in English verbal and written communication
Good to have
- ITIL V4 Foundation certification or equivalent ITSM knowledge
- Linux certification (RHCSA / LFCS) or a cloud-fundamentals certification
- Scripting familiarity with Bash, Python, or PowerShell
- Exposure to cloud platforms and GPU or high-density infrastructure
- Prior experience in a 24x7 NOC, SOC, or command-center environment using JIRA, Confluence, PagerDuty, or observability platforms
