Kong is hiring a Software Engineer 2 for its Managed Gateways team in Bangalore, India. Kong operates as the AI Connectivity Company, building a unified API and AI platform that helps organizations manage, secure, and accelerate digital traffic across any cloud and model. In this role, you will work on dedicated cloud gateways and serverless gateways, which are key growth areas for the company with strong year-over-year adoption. A normal day involves designing distributed systems, building microservices and control-plane components, collaborating with product managers and architects, writing automated tests, and handling on-call rotations to ensure high platform uptime.

Responsibilities

• Design and build highly available distributed systems for Managed Gateways to handle outages.
• Take end-to-end ownership of key features from design to production rollout.
• Develop microservices and control-plane components for serverless and dedicated cloud gateways.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to deliver scalable features.
• Participate in on-call rotations and improve service reliability.
• Write automated tests, observability tools, and reduce operational toil.
• Contribute to the technical roadmap for Managed Gateways using infrastructure and networking concepts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience building high-performance software in platform or infrastructure engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Golang.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and networking principles like DNS, HTTP, TLS/SSL, and L4/L7.
• Hands-on experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes and at least one major cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience building APIs and designing systems to achieve high uptime SLAs.
• Proven ability to debug complex systems from network packets to high-level design.
• Strong communication skills and experience driving features independently with a sense of ownership.

Good to have

• Experience working with L4/L7 proxies like Envoy, Nginx, or HAProxy.
• Background in developer platforms or API management.
• Experience with multi-cloud networking.
• Contributions to open-source networking or infrastructure projects.
