Staff Network Reliability Engineer- Cloud Operations

skylo
Bangalore, IndiaFull-time

About this job

As a Staff Network Reliability Engineer for Cloud Operations at Skylo in Bangalore, you will serve as the Cloud Infrastructure domain authority within the production NTN network. You will manage the health of RAN NFs, Core NFs, OSS, BSS, and the observability pipeline across a hybrid cloud estate comprising GCP and on-premise private cloud infrastructure. A normal day involves monitoring 24x7 platform health, triaging infrastructure alarms, executing runbooks for faults like GKE node failures and database failovers, managing persistent storage, and maintaining SLOs tied to network SLA commitments. Skylo pioneers a standards-based approach to satellite connectivity, bridging terrestrial and satellite networks for billions of IoT devices and smartphones globally. You will work at the intersection of consumer devices, automotive, and industrial IoT, acting as the last technical stop before engineering escalations.

Responsibilities

  • Own 24x7 cloud infrastructure health across GKE clusters, namespaces, pods, PVCs, and hybrid multi-cluster footprints.
  • Operate on-premise Kubernetes clusters, bare-metal node availability, CNI networking, and storage arrays.
  • Monitor and triage infrastructure alarms using Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, GCP Cloud Monitoring, and Loki log correlation.
  • Execute and own Cloud Infra runbooks for fault categories like node recovery, database failover, and ArgoCD drift remediation.
  • Manage the end-to-end observability pipeline including Prometheus scrape targets and OpenTelemetry collector health.
  • Serve as the L3 escalation authority for all Cloud Infra incidents, diagnosing issues at the Kubernetes and database layers.
  • Define and maintain SLOs and error budgets for all Cloud Infrastructure components tied to MNO partner SLAs.

Requirements

  • Expertise in operating hybrid cloud environments spanning GCP public cloud and on-premise private cloud infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with GKE, bare-metal Kubernetes, container runtimes, and CNI networking.
  • Strong knowledge of persistent storage operations, including PostgreSQL streaming replication and Redis clusters.
  • Experience managing observability pipelines using Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and Loki.
  • Proven ability to act as an L3 escalation authority for complex infrastructure and Kubernetes incidents.
  • Track record of defining and maintaining SLOs, error budgets, and driving toil reduction through automation.
  • Experience participating in global 24x7 on-call rotations for mission-critical cloud infrastructure.

Who should apply

This role suits an experienced reliability or cloud operations engineer with a strong background in managing complex hybrid cloud estates, Kubernetes, and large-scale observability pipelines. Candidates should be comfortable acting as an L3 escalation authority, driving incident resolution, and defining SLOs for mission-critical production networks. The posting does not state that freshers can apply.
