Emergent Labs is looking for a Legal Associate to join their team in Bengaluru. Emergent builds autonomous coding agents that replace traditional software development by generating, testing, and deploying production applications from plain-language intent. Backed by top investors and growing rapidly with over 10M users globally, the company tackles complex challenges in AI-driven software creation regarding correctness, security, and scale. In this role, your normal day will involve reviewing, marking up, and closing commercial agreements to ensure deals and vendors move forward efficiently. You will work closely with business, product, and legal teams to handle a high volume of contracts, manage negotiations, and support the rapid scaling of the business.

Responsibilities

• Review and redline commercial contracts end-to-end like customer agreements, enterprise MSAs, vendor and SaaS agreements, consultant agreements, and NDAs.
• Manage a high volume of daily contracts to maintain fast turnaround while flagging important risks.
• Mark up clauses such as liability, indemnity, IP ownership, confidentiality, data protection, and termination against standard positions.
• Drive contracts from first review through counterparty comments to final signature and track their status.
• Review data processing terms and privacy clauses with focus on India's DPDP Act and GDPR.
• Provide business, sales, and procurement teams with clear and quick answers on contract questions.
• Maintain contract templates, clause libraries, playbooks, and keep trackers accurate across India and US entities.

Requirements

• 1 to 3 years of experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts at a tech, consumer, SaaS company or law firm.
• LLB from a reputed law school.
• Hands-on experience marking up NDAs, MSAs, vendor agreements, SaaS agreements, and customer contracts.
• Working knowledge of data privacy terms like DPDP Act and GDPR, along with basic IP and confidentiality concepts.
• Sharp attention to detail with sound judgment to spot essential risks and move quickly on the rest.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to explain legal risk in plain language.
• Ownership mindset to take a contract through completion and ask for help early.
