As a Principal Software Engineer for Managed Databases at DigitalOcean in Bengaluru, you will act as the top-tier technical authority for the DBaaS platform. In this role, you will modernize managed database services into an AI-native ecosystem. A normal day involves solving complex distributed computing and scale challenges, enhancing DBaaS service performance, and elevating platform resiliency. You will handle systems engineering tasks to meet the massive demands of real-time AI inference and data-heavy cloud workloads. Your work will directly impact how global developers utilize cloud databases, driving technical strategy and execution while collaborating with talented engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Architect and execute solutions for large-scale DBaaS distributed computing challenges.
• Set and execute the multi-year technical roadmap for DBaaS infrastructure.
• Take accountability for low-level DBaaS performance, resource utilization, and fault tolerance.
• Expand control plane and infrastructure to scale managed database services for AI inference.
• Enhance core lifecycle capabilities like automated failovers, continuous backups, and PITR.
• Author architectural technical blueprints, define execution standards, and lead design reviews.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience architecting, building, and operating large-scale platform infrastructure.
• Track record of diagnosing and solving complex, high-concurrency engineering problems.
• Practical experience scaling distributed services for AI inference and data-intensive workloads.
• Expertise in system profiling, identifying IO/CPU/network bottlenecks, and improving performance.
• Experience driving system resiliency, scaling platform availability, and optimizing recovery mechanisms.
• Demonstrated ability to take technical ownership and convert business requirements into architecture blueprints.

Good to have

• Working knowledge of relational database engine internals specifically PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
