As a Senior Software Engineer-Network at DigitalOcean in Bengaluru, you will join the Compute Platform Services team within the Core Compute organization. In this role, you will help design and develop high-throughput backend systems that orchestrate complex virtual machine placement and execution workflows, interface with hypervisor control layers, and process real-time resource-telemetry signals. A normal day involves designing and maintaining backend services and concurrent asynchronous workflows, integrating control planes with hypervisor and host virtualization layers, building scalable APIs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and monitoring core system performance to ensure high reliability and scalability of compute orchestration systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and concurrent asynchronous workflows for virtual machine provisioning and lifecycle management using Python and Go.
• Integrate backend control planes with hypervisor and host virtualization layers like KVM and QEMU to manage compute resources, storage attachments, and virtual networking.
• Build and operate scalable REST and gRPC APIs to connect compute orchestration engines, metadata services, and internal infrastructure platforms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure host infrastructure supports high-density hyperthreading, autoscale policies, and customer SLAs.
• Drive engineering best practices including code reviews, comprehensive testing, and technical design documentation.
• Monitor core system performance, troubleshoot control-plane bottlenecks, and ensure high reliability of compute orchestration systems.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building highly concurrent, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Deep proficiency in Python and Go, or strong experience in C++ or Java with a willingness to learn Python and Go quickly.
• Hands-on experience with durable workflow orchestration engines for distributed state, hardware scheduling, and asynchronous tasks.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization, hypervisors, containerization, or low-level system isolation technologies such as KVM, QEMU, libvirt, Docker, or microVMs.
• Experience building resilient APIs and handling high-throughput telemetry, control-plane signals, or message streams.
• Foundational understanding of host resource scheduling, storage and network virtualization trade-offs, and multi-tenant infrastructure challenges.
