As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will be one of the founding SREs embedded with the payment platform teams. Your main goal is to elevate payment flow availability from three nines to four and five nines. A normal day in this role involves defining reliability standards, building automated failover and capacity management systems, handling incident commands, running production readiness reviews, and practicing chaos experiments to ensure uninterrupted money movement for millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for critical payment flows like authorization, capture, and refunds.
• Own the release lifecycle by designing progressive rollout pipelines and automated rollback triggers.
• Carry the pager for payment-critical services and lead incident command during outages.
• Eliminate toil by building automation for failover, capacity management, and load shedding.
• Harden payment flows against distributed systems failure modes such as retry storms and cascading failures.
• Run production readiness reviews for new payment services based on error budget data.
• Design alerting systems focused on customer-facing symptoms to reduce detection and recovery time.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience with at least 5 years operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Strong software engineering skills in Go, Java, or Python with experience building tools and services.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems failure modes like circuit breakers and bulkheading.
• Solid fundamentals in Linux internals, networking, and databases under load.
• Hands-on experience designing or improving deployment pipelines such as canary analysis and feature flags.
• Demonstrated experience with genuine on-call ownership, carrying pagers, and leading incident responses.
• Fluency with modern observability tools including metrics, tracing, and structured logging like Prometheus or Datadog.
• Experience defining SLOs and error budget policies from scratch.

Good to have

• Experience in payments, fintech, banking, trading, or domains involving transactional consistency.
• Experience with Kubernetes at scale, service mesh, and traffic management.
