DigitalOcean is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the App Platform and Functions engineering team in Hyderabad. DigitalOcean builds the simplest scalable cloud, empowering developers, dreamers, and builders worldwide with managed infrastructure. App Platform serves as DigitalOcean's managed PaaS, allowing customers to deploy applications seamlessly on Kubernetes without managing underlying clusters, while Functions provides serverless compute for event-driven workloads. In this role, you will contribute to building, operating, and scaling the control plane and runtime systems for these critical developer products. A normal day for a Software Engineer II involves writing clean Go code to implement new features and bug fixes, working on gRPC and HTTP APIs, interacting with Kubernetes-backed infrastructure, participating in on-call rotations to resolve production issues, writing unit and integration tests, and collaborating cross-functionally with team members to enhance platform reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

• Implement features and bug fixes across App Platform and Functions services using Go.
• Contribute to gRPC and HTTP APIs, reconciliation loops, and customer workload lifecycle workflows.
• Work with Kubernetes-backed infrastructure to improve scheduling, isolation, and healing of workloads.
• Improve Functions runtime behavior, focusing on cold-start performance, reliability, and isolation.
• Participate in on-call rotations, investigate production issues, and write operational runbooks.
• Partner with senior engineers to build expertise in distributed systems and cloud-native platforms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional product and engineering teams across the organization.
• Write unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and maintain high standards of reliability.

Requirements

• 2 to 4 years of software engineering experience building production services.
• Proficiency in Go or a strong background in another typed systems language.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes concepts such as Deployments, Services, and Controllers.
• Understanding of distributed systems principles including replication and latency trade-offs.
• Exposure to containerized environments, microservices, and SQL databases like MySQL or Postgres.
• Ability to troubleshoot ambiguous bugs and production issues effectively.
• Strong communication skills to document work and collaborate with teammates.

Good to have

• Experience with PaaS, serverless platforms, or multi-tenant control planes.
• Familiarity with service meshes, CNI networking, autoscaling, or scale-to-zero patterns.
• Exposure to event-driven systems, webhooks, or runtime isolation technologies like gVisor.
• Experience with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, or Prometheus-based observability.
• Prior on-call experience for production services.
