As a Software Engineer III specializing in Linux and AWS at the Hyderabad office, you will own the architecture and health of the Linux side of Developer Compute, which supports thousands of internal engineers. Your core responsibilities include designing infrastructure decisions for AWS WorkSpaces and WSL, establishing automation and configuration standards using Ansible, driving technical roadmaps, and serving as the final technical authority for difficult Unix and identity issues. A normal day involves investigating complex fleet-wide health issues, troubleshooting identity and authentication bottlenecks, reviewing Ansible playbooks, and building monitoring tools to resolve underlying platform problems permanently rather than applying temporary workarounds.

Responsibilities

• Architect and own the Linux compute platform, including AWS WorkSpaces and WSL configurations.
• Author, review, and manage Ansible playbooks and roles for configuration, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Act as the ultimate technical authority for hard Unix, identity, and infrastructure problem escalations.
• Troubleshoot authentication and identity plumbing such as Kerberos, KCM caches, and GSSAPI SSH errors.
• Support new region and OS rollouts while leading migration paths off end-of-life images.
• Build observability and monitoring tools to detect Ansible run failures and workspace health anomalies.
• Resolve container networking, credential breakage, and developer tool issues across the fleet.

Requirements

• 5 to 8+ years of experience in Linux systems engineering with production fleet ownership.
• Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting AWS WorkSpaces or equivalent Linux VDI.
• Advanced Unix and Linux fundamentals including systemd, PAM, Kerberos, and strace/journalctl usage.
• Strong practical experience with Ansible in a peer-reviewed merge-request workflow.
• Familiarity with Linux package managers across distributions, Homebrew, and declarative package managers.
• Solid AWS fundamentals including IAM, STS, and VPC networking, plus Active Directory literacy.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
