As a Sr. Software Engineer II at Smartsheet in Bangalore, your day involves building and scaling a global platform by working across front-end, back-end, test automation, and cloud infrastructure. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners like product managers and UX designers in a lean agile setup, deploying service and infrastructure changes through full CI/CD. Smartsheet is currently embarking on an ambitious chapter of uniting human teams with AI agents, automating manual tasks, and driving global innovation from its India Global Capability Center. A normal day requires you to contribute to product development phases from idea generation and prototyping to execution and operational excellence. You will also take ownership of solving complex technical challenges, upholding high coding standards, and actively mentoring junior team members while balancing customer delivery with quality and creativity.

Responsibilities

• Work across front end, back end, cloud infrastructure, and test automation.
• Drive high internal service and open source tooling standards.
• Deploy service and infrastructure changes frequently using full CI/CD.
• Contribute to idea generation, planning, design, execution, and shipping.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product and UX.
• Mentor junior engineers on coding and cloud standards.
• Validate problem-solving approaches with teammates.

Requirements

• Proficiency with Java
• Familiarity with algorithms, data structures, and coding best practices
• Experience with distributed systems at scale
• Understanding of event-driven architecture principles
• Hands-on experience with Kinesis, Kafka, or similar
• Legally eligible to work in India on an ongoing basis
• Fluency in English

Good to have

• Experience with improving large-scale event processing systems
• Experience with database log streams like MS-SQL Transaction Logs or MySQL Bin Logs
• Experience with stream processing frameworks such as Flink or Spark
• Squad lead or team lead experience
