Smartsheet is currently hiring a Staff Engineer - Databricks in Bangalore, India to help the company unite human teams with AI agents. In this role, you will be part of a team working on advanced data platforms that automate manual tasks and uncover insights at scale. A normal day in this position involves designing scalable data architectures, building and optimising data pipelines, managing data models, ensuring data security and compliance, and troubleshooting complex data-related issues. You will also evaluate new data technologies, collaborate with product engineering teams, and drive engineering excellence while ensuring high availability and performance across large datasets.

Responsibilities

• Design and oversee the architecture of scalable data platforms, pipelines, storage solutions, and processing systems.
• Develop and implement data models while ensuring data quality and governance policies.
• Build and optimise data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform large datasets from diverse sources.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in data pipelines and systems for efficient data retrieval.
• Diagnose and resolve complex data-related issues to ensure platform stability and reliability.
• Implement data security measures to protect sensitive information and maintain compliance.
• Evaluate emerging data technologies and explore innovation opportunities for the data infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
• Experience with enterprise SaaS software solutions featuring high availability and scalability.
• Background in handling large-scale structured and unstructured data from varied sources.
• Experience in building and maintaining distributed compute, data orchestration, and streaming infrastructure.
• In-depth experience in system design involving large petabytes of data using Databricks Lakehouse.
• Legally eligible to work in India on an ongoing basis with fluency in English.

Good to have

• Experience in modern AI and data infrastructure patterns and organizing data for AI agents.
• Familiarity with AWS, GCP, Snowflake, and pipeline frameworks like Airbyte or Airflow.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, Java, or Scala.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform, and observability tools.
• Experience with solution cost optimizations and driving engineering excellence.
