DigitalOcean is looking for an Engineering Manager to join its team in Bengaluru. In this role, you will support engineers, foster company culture, and lead a mixed-skill team focused on customer and platform engineering product offerings. DigitalOcean builds the simplest scalable cloud, empowering developers and dreamers globally to build and operate applications. A normal day in this position involves guiding team development, facilitating communication, providing clear vision and priorities, reviewing architectural system designs, collaborating with cross-functional partners like UI, UX, and product teams, and offering career coaching and performance assessments. You will also help define product roadmaps, handle escalations, and drive improvements following incidents to ensure reliable, scalable systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of back-end software engineers developing gRPC APIs and operating infrastructure for observability solutions.
• Develop efficient team methods and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to measure and report on success.
• Collaborate across the organization with UI, UX, customer success, marketing, and engineering teams to define roadmaps.
• Review and give input on architectural system designs while pairing on feature delivery and defect resolution.
• Provide career coaching, performance assessments, and regular feedback to team members.
• Collaborate directly with customers to understand their needs and improve DigitalOcean services.
• Serve as an escalation path for product on-call rotations and drive post-incident improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 4+ years of experience in a senior leadership or management role.
• Proven track record of delivering complex cloud-scale distributed systems, particularly in customer experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills within a global organizational structure.
• Familiarity with technologies such as Go, Java, and distributed systems.

• Experience building software used by thousands of users.
• Regularly integrating customer feedback into software development practices.
• Interest in learning Golang gRPC principles, infrastructure operations, or large language models.
• Demonstrated systems thinking and a commitment to scalable, reliable systems.
