Instawork Robotics Labs (IRL), an initiative by Instawork, is tackling the physical AI era's defining infrastructure challenge: the 100,000-year data gap between AI language models and physical robots. IRL deploys skilled workers into real commercial and residential environments to capture the high-fidelity task data needed by the world's leading robotics labs to train their foundation models. As the Head of Operations, you will lead the charge in building, scaling, and operating large, distributed, real-world operations from the ground up. A normal day involves designing operating models, establishing performance metrics, building high-performing teams, and solving complex, ambiguous operational problems on the ground without relying on a pre-existing playbook.
Responsibilities
- Build and scale operations from the ground up, defining operating models and creating systems for growth.
- Own large, distributed, real-world operations across multiple locations, teams, and workflows.
- Build and develop high-performing, accountable teams and establish a culture of ownership.
- Turn chaos into structure by identifying bottlenecks and building repeatable processes.
- Execute relentlessly by getting on the ground to solve problems when things break.
- Operate at speed, making quick decisions amidst changing priorities and ambiguous environments.
- Design processes and teams capable of handling 10x growth while driving performance and productivity.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in Operations.
- Significant experience building and running large, distributed, real-world operations.
- Experience in e-commerce, logistics, marketplaces, field operations, fast-scaling startups, or hardware-adjacent businesses.
- Track record of building teams and operating models from scratch.
- Strong people leadership experience with high ownership, agility, and resilience.
- Strong operational judgment and ability to work with incomplete information.
- A strong bias toward action, balancing speed, quality, cost, and scale.
